Automated reply detection in EmailBison

Last updated August 25, 2025

Overview

EmailBison categorizes whether a reply is an automated reply or not, using its own proprietary methodology. EmailBison's approach is unique versus other platforms because it immediately appends this information with the rest of the data related to the reply.

This is separate from any other categorization, tagging or other steps you may take. And it means OutboundSync can immediately act on this information.

💡

This is useful in instances where a reply is an out of office message. With this information, you can filter out these replies to understand your true reply rate or just reduce the number of notifications for your sales team.

How OutboundSync supports this

OutboundSync supports this categorization through a discrete lead category updated event, which you can use in flows/workflows and reporting.

When a reply has been flagged as an automated reply by EmailBison, the Lead Category ID will equal automated_reply and the Lead Category Name will equal Automated Reply.

OutboundSync will handle the EMAIL_REPLY itself as a separate event, which means that it will be logged as a separate activity in your CRM.

What it looks like in your CRM

Here's an example of what this looks like in HubSpot, with the center column showing both the email activity and two separate timeline events:

Similarly in Salesforce, both activities would be logged either as an emailmessage or as a task with the custom task subject line that you configured in OutboundSync.

💡

If you have  Category-based filters enabled , this data would not sync until an approved category-based update is received, which would release all the data.
